Background
Since OnePlus entered India in 2014, it has grown at an unprecedented rate. The company's smartphones have been attracting a great deal of attention. India is now becoming its global export hub. Rapid expansion challenged its infrastructure, and this was why OnePlus bought a 5-story building to set up a new R&D center in the Financial District of Hyderabad. The new office has two phases to be completed in the third quarter of 2020 with an employee increase to 1,500 in three years.
OnePlus wanted to leverage the new space plan to promote innovation and maximize business potential. To recognize the significance of change for OnePlus, the Sunon project team built an innovation-prone office eco-system to enable its employees to explore the possibility of creativity in modern workspaces.
Walked into OnePlus
Fundamental changes are happening throughout all aspects of the smartphone industry and innovation is increasingly playing a dominant role in this modern business. According to Peter Drucker, the founder of modern management, the expertise, and specialty of knowledge-workers would bring a competitive enterprise edge when a society entered the innovation-driven phase. Based on the above research and onsite interviews, we planned to create a human-centered, healthy, green, and intelligent modern workstation that sparked innovation.
Design Concept
Inspire A Creative Mind with Colors
After making a thorough research of the OnePlus brand, we created different color combinations for the whole space. Primary colors included white, gray, natural color, and black. For some details, we used bright colors such as red, orange, and green to brighten the office. In the meantime, we selected gradients to create color blends, creating an office that was softly lit with a warm glow.
Concentrate on People
With a focus on individual and team needs, we started with people and ended with innovative workspace solutions. The spaces were planned interactively and responsively.
Stay green and health
We chose furniture and additional components with ergonomic features to create a holistic approach and guide employees to develop healthy working habits. In all spaces, sustainable & eco-friendly furniture crafted with the highest standards was a necessity for our design.
Put Smart to Work
We integrated technology into office furniture to make spaces more efficient in fulfilling the functional requirements of employees.
Different Spaces and Product Features
Balancing teamwork and privacy
Staff area was the core part of the office design because it was where most individual work and collaboration happened. With a full understanding of roles and responsibilities for OnePlus employees, we designed an open office with a focus on efficiency and innovation. Comfortable, understated furnishings and simple decorative objects were embedded to encourage curiosity and enhance employees' motivation to explore new ideas.
Rearrangement is a new freedom
Nowadays, employee communication has become another priority, and frequent face-to-face interaction will make the work more productive. To establish a sufficient teamwork space, we used flexible modular units that were quickly adapted to the room of any size. The cutting-edge multimedia technologies enabled open access to knowledge sharing for anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Colors do matter
Social space was in the middle of the staff area and meeting room, particularly exciting use of random rhythm. The color shift and change in different areas made the office full of vigor and vitality, creating a more innovative working atmosphere and building enthusiasm among teams.
Homelike office to attract new talent
For the pantry area, we kept enough space for employees and other people to move smoothly and minimized the distance between food and employees. The seating areas of various types were flexibly arranged to meet the different needs of dining. Bright colors and lights also provided a place for employees to nap and enjoy their afternoon tea.
Like what OnePlus keeps telling its fans never to settle, the company never stops its exploration of building an innovation-prone environment for its employees. With this new R&D center, people could get what they were looking for and would be more willing to try new approaches to demonstrate their potential.
